Is it worth me upgrading...?

I currently have an AMD64 Winchester 3000 running at 280 X 9 so 2.53Ghz, with my Ram at 230mhz.

Anyway i have a chance to buy a 3700 San Diego for £135 inc, stepping is 0515SPMW if it means anything, and the seller states it can do stable 2.86 on air at 1.57v.

Would this speed increase, as well as extra cache make it a worthwhile upgrade?

Thanks :)

Nothing as such, although sometimes it does seem a little slowish, just the fact i got some extra cash, and was thinking maybe to upgrade before the Winnie becomes totally obselete and starts selling for peanuts :p

Im just not 100% sure its worth it right now, thats why im asking for opinions :)

What is your hard drive situation? That's usually the bottle neck. When does it lag?

I dont think you should bother. £135 for an extra 330mhz and double the cache, factor in what you could sell your current CPU for and i dont think its really worth it. The extra cache dosent affect performance all that much anyways.

Well when im doing a few things, like burning a CD, listenin to music, transfering files across a partition, browsing, it does seem to slow down, have 2X512mb Corsair XMS Ram if that matters. So theres no point upgrading the CPU?

Your next upgrade should be dual core, it eliminates lag from tasks that make a single core lag. Not suggesting you upgrade now though, but just wait a while and get a dual core in the future.

Yeah, if the money is burning a hole in your pocket, get a 1GB CAS2 stick of ram, and sell your Corsair. Then buy another matching 1GB stick.

Yup, you sound like your having a lot of the same problems I have been having. Not really a big deal, but multi-tasking is becoming bothersome with my a64 3200. For doing a couple things at the same time, it's fine. But I really do hope when i get the X2 this flippin' screens, burning cds, listening to music, watching movies lag will go away.
