I have a e6400 @ 2.7 along with a Gigabyte s3 motherboard. The thing holding back my OC is undoubtedly the motherboard (can only get up to 338 fsb) Would the new 8400 paired with a new motherboard be a much better upgrade? Or should I wait a little longer for something better to come out?

if you want to do some serious overclocking..yes..if not, then no. i have a 6400 and i don't feel a need to do more than "play" with overclocking..it's not what i want everyday..i'm going to change to a 9450 or 9550 to get into quad core, but i was not going to quad core, i wouldn't bother spending the money. i used to overclock my 6400 to 3.5 and run it 24/7 for almost 2 years without any issue..it was fun, but really didn't do anything "better" than it did stock aside from benchies.

I suppose the relevant question would be what are you using the computer for? Is there anything you want to do that it currently can't handle?

No, not really. just some light gaming (maybe one or two hours a week). But I do like my machine fast lol! Is the 8400 clock for clock faster than the e6400?

I've had e6300 since its launch. oced at 3.2ghz. I still do not have need for upgrade but I'm taking the plunge only because I need RAID and need to change mobo.

If you're happy with your current setup, you just need to stop watching the forum for about 2 weeks until early adopters with crazy e8400 oc results pass by. You'll have resisted almost all the urge to upgrade :D

8400 (wolfdale) is faster than 6400 (conroe) but not really noticeably unless you do some video editing that takes adv of SSE4.. even so you won't pass out holding breath for 6400 to finish its job.
