Is it worth it up get componet cables for the old xbox

I still have the old xbox and still play it some times. Still have maybe 2 or 3 titles I need to experience. So would a set componet cables (red,green,blue) greatly improve the viewing experience? or just continue to use the regular connections and stick the cash in the piggy bank with xbox360 written on the side of its belly.?

Its almost impossible to find the original MS component cables these days. Most stores carry the usual crap line of madcatz, pelican and other third party brands. Monster has component cables but as usual with monster products its overpriced. I'm using a madcatz brand (as I can't find the original ms cables) and they work ok. Some games are 720p (all are 480p as far as I know) and look much nicer and you can use xbmc at 720p.

I have the psyclone component cables and they work fine. I'd recommend getting them. 480p for pretty much all xbox games.

I found the original component cables used at Gamestop. I don't think used cables really matter, they're just cables.

Late one night (in the AM) I found myself in need of a set of component cables.. I did not have a set on hand and there was no way I was going to up up with a set at that moment. I do have a breeding collection of stereo/compostite vidieo cables, these are 3 conductor RCA style cables so for that night I pluged in a set (Red to red, yellow to the Y, white to what ever was left over.)

Works fine, if fact I am still running the cables, looks fine to me. Maybe one of these days I'll spring for a set of official component cables just to get matching colors but the need for a special set of cables is not clear.

My brother has a composite/s-video switcher that also switches 2-channel audio. I tried using the 2-channel audio along with the composite video to see if it could switch component video, and it did!

If I remember correctly, video cables can always be used for audio but not vice-versa. Video cables have to be at a specific resistance while there isn't a standard for audio cables. However, it's not unreasonable that some audio cables are up to the video standard. I imagine the switchers work the same way. Looks like we both got lucky.

I have always assumed that compent cables were simply shielded single conductors, as that is the usual application of RCA connectors. If as was stated above the componet cables are a fixed resistance that would make them Coax... If that is the case then I really should replace the video cables.

Looks like I need to do some research.

That was quick I googled Component Video cables and found this. Impedance mismatches are not good, can potentially damage circiutry at both ends. Since I have just used these cables to connect a 42" Samsung Plasma to a new DVD, I really should but some 75ohm cables on there.. Ok I'll get the right cables.
