Is it worth it to stay a fourth year in undergrad?

I've already posted several times on the same subject, just trying to get different aspects of it. :p

So, I've narrowed my paths to two: law school or a fourth year.

I can easily graduate this year; I also want to get my CPA license sometime in the near future, and the new requirements require 28 credit hours in accounting courses (which I'll be getting this next summer) and 225 quarter credit hours to sit for the exams.

So, if I get into the law schools I want (and can afford it), I will graduate this next spring, go through the first year and also start studying for the CPA exam that first summer.

What I am trying to do is figure out a contingency plan in case I don't get into those schools. I am planning on sitting for the exams starting two years from now, so this would be the best route to make the best use of that time while still preparing for law school. I could still satisfy all my graduation requirements, but the university will not force me to graduate until the year after. So I could stay an extra year, take an intensive accounting class over the summer, then 12 credits/qtr the next year - it would give me a chance to raise my GPA a bit, and I could possibly work nearly full-time in an internship or job and save some money my fourth year.

My other option is just to go full out for law school for the year after this, and go even if it means going to a second-tier school.

Any thoughts?

I say listen to kermalou!

I wouldn't be able to unless I picked up some bs second major, and IMO it's not worth it. I could do a business double-degree, but that's not worth the time or concentration. I would be better off looking for actual certifications or licenses, I think (i.e. CPA license, CFA license, etc.).

Which law schools are you applying to? Is it possible that being very young when applying to certain law schools (since the average age is around 24-25?) may hurt you?

I am not sure if it would hurt me in the actual application process.

I am looking at the University of Utah, George Mason University, University of Washington, UT Austin, University of Alabama, University of Arizona-Rogers, and William and Mary (these are all just by ranking/chances of getting in, I still have to narrow them down by other factors, ability to work the first year, cost, etc.).

woot UT austin!

the question depends on how the economy is doing. and if you're taken the LSAT already. if the economy starts to pick up presumably the law school applications will drop and selectivity will go down. so that a professional student such as yourself will have a better chance of getting in. and if you haven't taken the LSAT... its getting kinda late to start that.

I'm thinking about maybe going to law school after I get my Masters. Is it even worth it to go to a second-tier or worse school?

My sister just graduated this last year from the University of San Diego, ranked #60 or so. She has an internship with the SB DA's office, so she has a job. I do not know how much the name value would be worth in corporate America.

I wish you the best getting into U of Washington law school. The new building they are building for it is really nice, and I have heard good things about the program. The worst thing about it seems to be the fact that it is hard to get into.

Thank you. I would love to go here, but I don't think I have a realistic chance of getting in. Damn the year of math.

Good for you, mate...
You are thinking about it in 3rd yr. Undergrad. It took me my second year in Grad School to think about the same Q.

stay for 4 or 5, why miss out on your last chance of having fun in life? (especially if you're going to law school.)

Yes. I think (I hope) I can sit for the examination at least, then hopefully that can help me get some kind of job doing acctg until I get the experience to get the license.

How so? I've done the first section in a practice test, did alright, but I wasn't focusing on it.
