is it worth it to get a 9700 over a 9500 Pro?

Jeez, did you even read the first line in my reply? I'll quote it again:

i certainly hadn't been referring to your post when asked people to only answer my specific question: i had been referring to the people who were bringing up the 9500 non pro mod. i appreciate the straight forward answer that you provided.

hey, my monitor isn't exactly ghetto, but... i think that 2.4 ghz will hold me for long enough that i will be able to get a new monitor in the mean time. i'm gonna get the 9700. thanks for your advice, everyone!

I know you went off the 9500 mod idea due to success rate, but have you thought about getting a pre-modded 9500? There was something about them bein gin sale for $200 or so. They were 9500's that had been modded and tested I think to work as 9700's without problems. Can't remember where it was though.

Get the 9700/9700 Pro if you can afford it. I would highly advise against buying a card on the grounds that it might overclock and/or be able to be modded (ie the 9500). Pay a bit extra and you'll be guaranteed the extra speed.

my vote is for the 9700.

you'll probably want to run your games with max AA/AF...the 9700 is much faster than the 9500pro with AA turned on. you will still most likely be cpu limited at 1024 tho. good luck.
