Is it worth it to buy an open-box printer and save 10%?

I'm thinking of buying an open-box Canon i850 printer from BestBuy. They have new i850's for $153 open box and new printers for $169. Is the savings worth it?

I have one of those printers. I bought mine at Sam's Club for 149 with the USB cable and cartridges. So far I am very pleased with the picture quality and print speed 🙂

Like anything else, you must way the pros and the cons.

I bought an open box USB cable (10ft) for 25% off. It works great. You never know what might be wrong with an open box purchase.

Someone probably returned it with empty ink cartridges, since new Canon cartridges are more than the 10% that you are saving, I'd buy a new one.

EDIT: However, I bought a Canon S600 a year ago with empty cartridges and got the Best Buy employee to drop the price to $79 🙂 by telling him that it had empty cartridges.

Open box items with possible easyly broken moving parts is something you don't want to buy open box unless you have a lot of time on your hands.

Cables usually don't have moving parts, so if it doesn't look like it is too beat up, could be a great buy.

Bad idea, these cheap printers are very poorly made with low quality fragile plastic parts. The original buyer probably had junior break something off of it.

Stick with new. I wouldnt wanna mess with opened print cartridges. You can never know how long they were used.
