Is it worth it for me to buy BF2?

You can see my system specs in my sig... What I'm wondering is if BF2 will play smoothly on this rig. I just don't want to spend $45 on it if the video will be really cruddy. I'll just stick to CS:S if thats a major possibility.

Anyone care to make a guesstimate of what BF2 play will be like on this computer?

Talk about paranoia.

You sound like you need 2x 7800 on SLi.

Anyway, I personally think that BF2 s better than CS and UT2004. Although I would like to see BF2 with UT2004 maps, character mods, vehicles and unlimited stamina. Dude I hate when BF2 slows down after you run out of energy. You call that a video game? UT2004 did it right with simulation. But BF2 ruined itself with some really crappy 1st person interface settings, that you just can't get rid of. Thank hell Unreal Engine 3.0 is coming out, because I want to see a game that comes standard without needing MODs, to be a perfect all-in-one.

At anyrate, if you haven't noticed the price drop of Doom 3, that's how fast BF2 will drop in price as well. If you have the desire for the game, spend the money. Otherwise, don't waste your time. Go outside and play some ball.

Are you new? I never asked anyone how enjoyable they think BF2 is. Did I?

So yeah, people, I think I'll be picking up the game later on today.

Playing BF2 everyday on a 2.4GHz A64 + x800xl (no o/c).
I have it set @ 1600x1200 everything maxed out with 2xAA. Smooth as butter.

There is a demo, you know. You could try it out and see.

But yeah, your system will run the game just fine.

1GB memory isn't enough for high settings. You'll probably have to play on medium settings unless you upgrade to 1.5GB or even better 2GB memory.

Although now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure the last patched decreased the requirements a bit so you actually might be OK. You will be able to play the game fine either way.

BF2 is not that hardware intensive low end machines can run it ok, so your will definatly handle it and you should get good FPS.

Start worring abut future improvements of the doom and unreal engine. :p

All I can say is that the Battlefield series have been the most expensive games I've ever bought.

Let's see, my original P4 2.0GHz 512MB RAM system could handle BF1942 fairly well.

Then when BF Vietnam came out, I spent about $500 in upgrades to be able to play it (+256MB RAM, +5700Ultra, +Audigy 2ZS, +etc.). (turned out to be a really crappy game too)

Now, I just got done spending $1500 on a whole new rig so I can play BF2. How sad.

Stop this insanity !! :disgust: :)

I am 100% positive on that having 2GB ram would improve.
I had a FX-55 with 6800GT SLI + 1GB OCZ VX before and BF2 was a little choppy.
Now, my video card (x800xl vs. 6800GT SLI before) is much weaker, and CPU is a little slower (4400+ vs. FX-55 before) but BF2 is much smooth with even higher than before setting because I upgrade to 2GB RAM.

Dude, your rig is a BEAST compared to mine (A64) and i run it at medium with 1024x768 100% draw distance. It will run perfectly i would imagine, if not turn a setting or two down to medium.
