Is it worth going into a Big 4 firm if you're an experienced professional?

If I have 5 years of IT audit experience and I have a potential opportunity to work for a Big 4 in NYC, would it be worth it? I would definitely jump on this if I were a fresh grad but do I really need to work extremely long hours to get a reputable company on my resume with 5 years of work experience?

Depends on your thinking.

Are you happy with being a big fish in a small pond?

or do you want to work your way up to being a big fish in a big pond?

5-years is NOTHING in IT.

The only thing I'll say here is that if you've never worked for a "big" organization like the Big 4, then it would look good on your resume going forward. You could bust your ass for a few years and then go back to something smaller in a much better position simply because of that being on your resume.

Dig up a thread about my GF who works in PcW (big 4) in NYC.

For finance yea, but what's the point of working IT for big 4? Also why would IT work crazy hours as finance people?

Well he said IT Audit.

IT Auditors determine if the information systems are safeguarding assets, maintaining data integrity, and operating effectively to achieve the organization's goals or objectives.

These reviews are often done in conjunction with a financial statement audit.

Do it!

Huge resume boost. IT auditors work less hours than audit or tax people so it shouldn;t be too bad.

Question I would ask is - how much travel?

Because it's a Big 4...they're known for working the crap out of their employees. I think the hours may even be more demanding in NYC offices.

I wouldn't take the job then. 40 hours a week max for me. Other things in life are more important to me. Now, overtime here and there for special projects, that's fine, but that would not be SOP for me.

The 40 hour work week is a dead concept as far as I can tell unless your an hourly guy. Most places I've heard of expect 45-50 hours a week from their salaried people.

I know people who do IT consultation (Technology Consultant) at Deloitte. One says it can get demanding, but no where near the accounting people.

Consulting is separate from Deloitte's Tax and Advisory practices. I'm not sure it's really fair to compare.

You get thrown at F500 companies and get to play around with their IT infrastructure instead of being pigeon-holed into your own?
play around with? hardly haha.

more like, i see you had 600 new user account requests this year. please give me the approval documentation for these 100 I have selected so that I can make sure everything is in order.
