Since memory is so cheap, Crucial has 256 megs of PC133 Cas 2 for $39.40 plus 5.50 shipping and about 3.00 tax (approx 48.00) I currently have Crucials PC133 Cas2 and was wondering if its worth going to 512

Heres what I have
Asus CUSL2-C
P3 1000
Windows98SE
Voodoo5 5500
Maxtor 40 gig 7200rpm

Not sure if I will be upgrading yet to XP

So, is there any advantage to go to 512 ?

Good old advice applies - look at how much RAM you are using when you use your computer the most and if it is over 256MB, go for more. If it's not over 256MB, you won't gain anything by going with 512MB, just bragging rights :)

You wont notice anything over 384MB of ram in Win98 in my opinion. However, if you're using Win98SE and you have that much ran you can try putting this command line into your system.ini file ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1 it should minimize your swap file so that you'll make use of all that ram, not sure if it really does anything but i did notice that my swap file remained relativly small after i used it.

Upgrade to Windows 2000 before you do...

Yes - I would get it while it's cheap.

You can NEVER have enough RAM or HD Space!

These words still apply: You can never have too much memory or hard drive space. 128 to 384 did wonders for me. I have been planning to bump up to 512 when I get the cash (and get ECC).

What really ticks me off is that last year I paid $200 for the first 256mb of Mushkin rev1.5

Now I added the 2nd 256mb for only $35 (generic-but Ive learned that it doesnt matter)

Don't feel bad. I paid $190 for 128MB of rev2.

Yes it's worth it at these prices. And follow the others advice of going to 2k
