Is it worth getting rid of this KT7-RAID?

Hi,

i really don't have a sinlge problem with this board, but i saw Anantechs review of Aopens new Socket-A motherboard. I am tempted to get it and a Fast Trak 100 Controller. How much of a improvement would I see getting rid of this board for the AOpen/Fasttrak in games, Windows apps, ect....? Is it worth getting rid of this board or should i just keep it?

Thank you

Personally, I would keep the abit. Something new will come out every week but the only time to upgrade is when you will see a significant improvment. Motherboards are not typically what slow down applications thats all of the other components. By the way you have a kick ass system. If you really want to do an upgrade look into the yamaha 16X CDR. Thats my 2 cents.

I really don't see a reason for you to upgrade. Yeah, I know. AOpen does have some pretty stylish heatsinks for the chipsets, and its a bit faster in Q3 benchmarks, but I don't think that either one of these reasons justifies the cost, especially since the board isn't cheap and you have no problems with your current setup.

BTW, why not just get the fasttrak controller?

YES, you do have the "kick-behind" system already.
YES, 16X CDR is nice, only if you can't wait couple mins w/ your once a month burning.

YES, most system performance limited by the data transfer rate from media to buffer, NOT!!! buffer to HOST, THUS, IDE RAID IS NOT the solution to enhance your system.

I'd get rid of it cause ABIT has piss poor quality control. Your IBM drives have major timing issues with the HPT370 RAID controller. Kinda surprised that you don't have a problem. If you are going to get rid, do it now while the ABIT has some value. Aopen don't float my boat, get the MSI PRO2A and be assured of the quality.
