i was just wondering if it was worth getting a sound card for a headset? also i was just wondering wouldnt ur processor run faster since it doesnt have to do anything with sound.

If you get a soundcard that does hardware surround processing, you'll gain a few percentage points in games from taking some load off the CPU. Is that worth $50? Maybe.

You'll also tend to get better sound quality. If you have a nice set of headphones, it could definately be worth it.

i have a laptop, so this may not apply, but I recently bought the Audigy PCMCIA card, and it has provided a noticeable improvement in sound quality when using headphones.

the sound is louder, more vibrant and clearer.
