Can someone help me?

Is it worth buying a personal alcohol breathalyzer? I've seen a ton of them on sale on various website $40-$60, even on ebay. Alcohawk Micro Brathalyzer

I am a responsible person and Yes I know I should not be drinking & driving, but this will come in handy someday. It pays for itself. Does anyone know from experience if these work well?


Is it fairly accurate?
Is it easily washable?
How often must you calibrate it?

If this thing sux, can someone recommend me something for under $100.

id use it on myself, but i wouldnt use it on my mates, less they asked. (and knowing my bunch they'd probably see how high they could get it 😀)

you are going to drink until you get .1 from the limit and then drive anyway?

just drive drunk and kill people and save your money

It won't save the taxpayers any money after they throw his ass in jail. 😉

You should never put yourself in a situation where you need a machine to tell you that you are intoxicated.

The only thing personal breathalyers are for are to let heavy drinkers know when they can't have another one and drive home without getting busted.


What machine says to you does not help dictate exactly how impaired you are.

Those things aren't really very accurate anyway, I have one and the readings can fluctuate by as much as .05 from reading to reading

eh, while i understand your viewpoint, i think this issue here is 'while, i feel 100% ok to drive, does that mean i'm legal?'. I've never had a breathalyzer, so I have no clue what I feel like @ .08. Perhaps I feel like I would have no issue driving, perhaps I would feel buzzed.

Consensus says they don't work unless you get an expensive one and even then you need it recalibrated every so often.
