Is it worth buying a 780i mobo vs 680i mobo for PCI-E 2.0?

I'm going to be running dual 8800GT's on an SLI rig. Will using a PCI-E 2.0 mobo like 780i be significantly better than a cheaper 680i mobo that has PCI-E 1.1?

NONONO there is no point to getting a 780i motherboard unless you're going tri-sli for sure 100%...

pci-e 2.0 is just marketting right now and doesn't really do anything, there isn't any diff in video cards in 1.1 or 2.0 slots

The best thing you can do right now is wait. The 680 is history and with all the compatibility problems with penryn it just isn?t worth it. Most mobo manufacturers are skipping the 780 and are going directly for the 790. The 790 was supposed to support DDR3 only but there is rumour that nVidia may release a DDR2 flavour also. If you can?t wait for the 790 and you really want SLI then you have no option but to go for a 780 board.

I'd buy a 790i with ddr2 support. I'm waiting myself for something to appear so I can move my rig to a gen 2 pci-e mb. I would like for my graphics cards to have maximum bandwidth plus I want support for the newest cpu's and lots of sata ports onboard.
