Hi, I have a Z390 Xtreme. Is it worth and safe to update to BIOS ver 5? From the manual, it looks like there are several ways to update the BIOS. Which is the safest?

I always do USB stick and go through the bios. You have multi-bios so you shouldn't worry about it and just do whatever method is most convenient. You're not having problems with that board anymore are you?

If you're not experiencing problems, or if the update doesn't provide fixes you need, you might just leave it be.......especially with all the problems you've posted about here. Just my .02

Ditto, update bios only if it addresses a problem like memory compatibility or new CPUs.. .hopefully any major bugs were already worked out by v5.

Don't ever do an internet update. I've had a failure and the motherboard was out of warranty.

Do the flash usb bios, it works everytime!

Except for those POST issues I mentioned at the beginning of the purchase, it has been running fine. CPU running at about 4.5GHz and RAM at about 3400MHz. I just checked the return period. Actually it has been passed already.

It looks like BIOS v5 allows 128GB RAM and newer CPUs with details not specified. Currently, I am using 64GB and i9-9900K. If I keep the CPU, will upgrading the BIOS improve performance?
If not, shall I wait until I need either 128GB RAM or newer CPU before I update the BIOS?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Safest generally is usb based and definately not any internet methods. I've done an upgrade via an updater program in windows7 on a gigabyte board awhile back and it turned out ok. Never thought I'd try that method though after years of good ol' 3.5'' floppy disk flash and pray.

Rarely do new bios revisions improve performance. Typically they add new functionality or fix problems. Also rarely they actually decrease performance. That's why lots of people here are saying not to bother updating I'd imagine.
