Is it wise to buy a PCI internal modem when it takes up one PCI slot?

Would it be wiser to buy an external modem for just a little bit more and save that PCI slot?

I have 6 PCI slots and I thought that I would never be able to fill them up... well guess what... ALL GONE:
Network card
PCI modem
TV tuner
Slot cooler
Soundcard
Digital DIN connector

If I didn't have a PCI modem then I wouldn't be able to think of anything else that I could possibly fill up that last slot with so I doubt you'll ever have a problem... Heck doubt you'll ever get to where I am at so I say just save your money and get a PCI modem. On an average, external modems aren't as fast anyways

PCI slots are included on the motherboard so you can use them. They won't do you any good if you avoid using PCI devices in order to keep your PCI slots free.

I've read your other posts. Buy and external.
You should not be opening up your computer.

Unless one is financially challenged, I would never recommend buying an internal modem if an external was available.

I like being able to move them and they are much easier to install . . . and you can see what the heck is happening once you learn to read the LEDs. Also, you can turn the damned thing off when you aren't using it . . . and that makes it them easy to clear without rebooting your machine.

Also, most of the good ones have real volume controls and speakers.

Recently in this area, I have had excellent results with Zoom externals for clients . . . about as good as my Couriers.

If you can get the external.

Reason why is that most PCI internal modems nowa days are winmodems and those eat processor time that must be given to cracking rc5 :).

Also hardware modems IMO are a bit more reliable and from personal expreience give a faster download rate.
