is it win2k use more memory?

OK, you lost me....Please give some more details.

win2k does need more RAM than win9x. It also uses it ALOT more efectivly.

Wow... i thought it was common knowledge that Win2k uses more ram. And yes it does. You can cut back on it by turning off some services (i did that to my notebook, and cut it down from 80megs to under 40)... but generally, if you have 256 it's pretty much sufficient. If you have less than that, then i would seriously consider turning off some services if you don't use them.

Generaly Windows start a lot weird processes, you will not use, that sucks. But it not so bad when the price of ram have been dropping for long. Hopeforly this development will continue...
