Is it weird that there's no repair install option in windows xp?

After it loads, accept the option to install.

It'll checks your HD and offer the option to repair (press R).

Do not mix this with the Repair Console option, that happens before and its not it.

Repair works great when changing motherboard, for example - if you are getting the BSOD during startup.

Madellga, Could you please remind me how to enter setup with the windows CD. Seems my "not genuine" message quite showing up; won't boot and tells me Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \Wimdows\system32\config\system . You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows setup using the original Setuo CD-Rom. Select "r" at the first screen." I stupid for not addressing this sooner. Today first day won't boot. Is there a way to enter setup using my legitimate 2 copies of XP home upgrade? I put the Legitimate Home XP disc in and get the same message. Could you please direct me how to enter setup? Shouldn't set up start after loading the disc and rebooting? Any help appreciated.Tia --amdboy--

Ah I figured it out. The install was XP Home while I was using an XP Pro disc. That's why there was no repair install option (instead just a create). Thanks tho guys. 🙂

If the xp home disc you have is capable of installing windows xp home then just make sure your boot device priority is set in your bios to where your cd drive loads before your hard drive. Then it'll say Press any key to boot cd or something like that. Then you hit enter for installation, find your installation, and hit r for repair.

In some cases the 2nd repair option (repair install) is not available if the install is borked. However you can sometimes do a recovery console repair and then the 2nd repair becomes available if you try again.

Thanks will try that. Although it's giving me crap about not seeing my hard drives. Soooooo..... it asks if I want to install special drivers for rais, scsi or whatever. When I try to do that, then it says it cant find a floppy drive. Hmmm... will try & rest device load order. CD-Rom 1st, floppy, raid. correct?

basicly that's right if you are running a raid 🙂 but you'd want to use your OS's drive if it's not on the raid.
