i just got a used usb harddrive i i want to know if its usb 1.1 or 2.0. how can i find out?

Plug it into a USB 1.1 port. If it's USB 2.0 and you're using Windows XP it'll pop up a balloon telling you to use USB 2.0 because it'll be faster.
