I just been at a store and bought a 750W power supply.

The store owner advised not to plug it with a UPS because the UPS would use all the 750W to keep it constant, therefore I would be consuming a lot of power.

He told me to just plug it directly as I would consume power as much as im using and not 750w all the time

How true is this ??

I do not know what the guy is talking about, UPS kicks in when the power is down, otherwise it is just charging the Batteries.

No.

At a huge LAN that runs every year here, there were some people in charge claiming that same crap, so a few guys did some testing, & there was no more power consumed, & there was actually much lower spikes in power draw as well.

Sure, there's some power consumption for charging the batteries, running some monitoring, and doing periodic self-tests, etc., but this nothing like consuming the full 750 W. I don't know where that comment originates, but it can be debunked very simply -- where would that 750 W go? It would have to be converted to heat, and that over time would not just be a little, but a lot.

If you don't like theoretical arguments, just measure it with a Kill-A-Watt or similar device. (You should have one if you're concerned about your overall power consumption). I've done it, and certainly don't see full draw from my UPSs. In fact, it's a very nice way to measure power draw, as the batteries keep the devices running while I insert the meter.

You obviously went to the wrong store or the store hired the wrong guy. As mentioned, verify with a Kill-A-Watt and as soon as you have your own verification, you need to inform the store of the wrong info passed to you. I hope you know the person's name who gave you this info so it can be permanently debunked and corrected asap. For if you don't, this kind of wrong info passed over and over again will become so common like it is the correct info. Remember, even lies when repeated so many times tend to sound like it's the truth.

Joule is rotating in his grave every time someone says something like this.

That's great!

I think you got the wrong James.

It is more likely that James Watt is rolling in his grave rather than James Joule

On a second thought it is probably both.;)
