Is it true that ATi is rebuilding the Radeon drivers?

I've heard on a couple posts at Rage3D.com that ATi will be rebuilding the Radeon drivers from the ground up. The current Radeon drivers are based upon the Rage128 drives. So, is ATi going to be rebuilding their Radeon drivers, or is this just a false rumor?

Wow, I've not heard that one. They certainly have issues (with 16bit) that could definitely be addressed in totally new drivers. That'd be pretty cool actually...anyone know about this?

damn, they better be working 24/7!! If they're reworking from scratch....... ugh.. even longer b4 we get driver updates???

But i doubt it, cause isn't the radeon a new core?? how could it work w/ the rage series?

the current drivers we use are indeed based on Rage chipset (pathetic isnt it) from what i know. I've heard rumors they are making a new driver from ground up but nothing solid.

dont hold your breath.

but i do wonder what radeon can really do with correct set of Drivers and support. They really should spend lot of money on support and driver developement team like Nvidia. Even if they release drivers with flaws at least they'll learn from them and improve on them. much better then no drivers update at all.
