I thought I read something about a Intel Mobile CPU at 1.7 Ghz was equal to a faster normal Intel CPU is that true or did I misread?

I betcha what you read was referring to P4s. Nowadays the C2Ds in desktops and laptops are all the same chips, but when it used to be P4 in desktops and PM in laptops, yes that was true. A 1.73Ghz Pentium M is roughly equivalent to a 3.0Ghz Pentium 4 in performance.

maximumpc has looked at this quite a few times, and the problem seems to be that the few mobos that accept mobile Intel CPUs tend to be quite expensive.
