Is it true if you get two dogs, they don't get as lonely?

Varies. Some dogs will play with one another but all three of mine just sleep and sunbath til I get home.

Depends on the dogs and house I guess.

When I had a dog + cat they were happy and play together, and now with just 2 cats they are too.

Getting a second dog helped us out immensely. Our dog became much better behaved while we were gone and less needy while we were home. It's alot of fun to watch how they interact with each other: playing tug-of-war, wrestling in the backyard, etc. Try to get a boy and a girl, they seem to have alot less dominance issues than same sex pairs.

We also found that it wasn't all that much work maintaining two dogs. We feed them at the same time, walk them at the same time, play with them at the same time, etc. It's just more work to pick up their poop and bathe them.

I think two dogs will keep each other company better than a dog and a cat. One of our cats gets along really well with our dog, but he's still a cat and isn't as needy as a dog.

CUTENESSOVERLOAD

How long would you be leaving the pets alone?

Typical 8 hr days. To be honest, when I do get a dog, I want to be as affectionate and responsible as possible (for it would be my first time as an adult sans parents having one).

Therefore I'll probably not get one until I have a family or at least get married.

Cats and dogs can keep each other company, ours do. But a dog and a cat that get along still play together completely differently than two dogs that get along. or two cats for that matter.

If you really want a dog I would consider an adult dog and not a puppy. As absolutly cute as corgi's are they would probably not be the best breed of dog for that situation. I have been told they can be very difficult with other dogs and if you are going to leave them alone for long periods it prpbably would be a goog idea to have another companion for them (cat and/or dog). Also as a herding breed they a very busy dogs and need a job or something to do, otherwise they get a little wonky in the head.

I've got 3 labs and they never play together. But I'm pretty sure they run as a pack and keep each other company even if it's just sleeping or sniffing things. They do chase squirrels together. And if one barks another will most likely join in.

You'd think so but some dogs are very possessive. They want to be the center of attention, much like kids, supposedly.

My dogs didn't really play together but we got them a few years apart and they were both fully grown when they met.

My gf has a dog cat that love each other. They sleep together at night and the dog gets really sad when the cat isn't around. She also has another dog that tries to eat the cat...

I have 3 large dogs and have even had 4 for short periods of time. The only thing that really gets any harder adding more dogs is walking them on a leash since they tangle each other up. 2 of mine will only play for short periods of time while the 3rd would run around playing with other dogs all day if he could.

Our dog just lays around the house all day when we're gone...which is about all she does when we're home too.

My male Aussie and female Lab play like kids all day in the backyard...watching them wrestle for the top spot is about as much fun as anything on TV(of course the Aussie always wins)

Depends on the type of dog that you have. I know that my dog, who's lived the single life, would need a lot of time to get used to another dog lazing around the house in her spots.

We have a 16yr old dog, and a 2yr old dog, and they just lay around all day whether someone is home or not. Mostly because the old one is too old to do anything.

Interesting - I have the same pair with sex reversed. They'll play several times a day for 10-15 minutes at a time. Thought initially they were doing it for my attention but have seen them do it on their own. The smaller, older dog seems to be the boss - this has been the case with another pair (cocker spaniel and doberman).

Will probably always have at least two dogs. I've contemplated a third but am weary of messing with the current dynamic.

OP: Have you spent much time with an adult corgi? Every puppy is cute - innocence to the nth degree...

2-3 pets is a good combo...they can be cats and dogs, a pig, rabbit, etc.

All domesticated animals are social by nature. When you leave them alone all day with nothing to do it causes them a lot of stress and leads to behavior problems.

I have 3 cats (brothers) and some days they don't interact but most days at least 2 will play with each other all day between naps.

My cats are very socialized though. They come to the door when my wife and I come home (they know the sound of our cars even and wait as they hear us coming)...they come up to us while at the PC or watching tv and sit with us, etc.

Another benefit of more than 1 animal especially if the same type is they added costs are really not that much higher. One thing that is a bit more pricey is the initial vet visits (especially now with some changing new patient fees).

If my cat's were female it'd have been a bit more costly, but I had 3 neuters, 3 declaws, and 3 full sets of screening and shots. I think with a bit of discount I was still in for about $750-1000. The cats were free :)

Try and adopt if you can. There are too many animals out there and most purchases are just fueled pet mills.

Our kitty is an only child, but she seems very happy with that ;)

She just naps while we're at work, she's incredibly affectionate when we're around, and she's incredibly territorial (will beat the crap out of/try to beat the crap out of any other cats she catches on her patch  )

Dogs; I'd get two if I didn't know people would be home with them most of the day.

We have 2 mastiffs that keep each other company, male and female. The male would be ok by himself I think, but the female would go crazy, so overall I think it's good that we have 2.

The one Welsh Corgi I've known was a real people-lover but didn't like other dogs.
