that they are not very reliable and tend to fizz out after a year or so or did i read some garbage and they are good decent mobo's?

really stupid question here as i know nothing about Motherboards but is there a best brand for Mobo's e.g out of Asus, Abit, MSI, Gigabyte etc, which is the best?

ive read a few reviews and Asus mobo's seem to have it sorted as well as Abit

Ya, I have had several MSI and ASUS boards... all were top notch... you can't go wrong with a mainstream brand like those two...

My MSI motherboard is now nearly 2 years old and going strong,my other Epox board is still under a year old,I would just go and buy a board from the top brands like MSI,Asus,Epox,Gigabyte etc,you can`t go wrong.

Hey there :)

Yes from my experience and from what I have read MSI has a name for being stable.
If you look now at most places like CompUSA they carry MSI and ASUS boards.
MSI again is about as stable as you can get. Now MSI is doing boards that over-clock
and still give good results. If you are unsure, just check some of the reviews
on this site.

All brands of motherboards either suck or rule. Depends on who you talk to you.

My personal experience with MSI boards is a very positive one. Fast, stable and well laid out.

I havent owned every brand, but the ones I had experience with board problems mostly came from Soyo. Abit has been up and down with reliability as well. As for MSI I had some great ones, no complaints. Aopen makes very reliable boards as well, and of course good ole steady ASUS. Tyan makes some good dually boards from my experience as well.

Aside from the K7T Turbo boards (which did just randomly die), the MSI boards I've used have all been great...from the socket 7 ones to the K7 Master (which worked for a bit over a year before I killed the duron in it from stupidity, and may still work, I just used its death as an excuse to get a KT333 board, so haven't tested it :)), and KT3 Ultra-ARU I've most recently used.

I've read similar stories about the MSI boards rolling over within a year. Well... mine will have its first birthday in 2 months and so far I have no regrets or complaints. I did have a problem with an occasional failed POST when it was new but a BIOS flash corrected the error. As far as stability, it has never given me any problem or indication that it was weak at all; rock solid at all times, however, I am not one to OC so others may have different opinions.

I tend to shop for boards based on the my personal theory that if the board that holds up well when cranked to 11 it should hold up even better when operated at stock speeds. I also select boards based on their reputation in the industry. Brand names such as ASUS, Abit, Aopen, Epox, Gigabyte, MSI and iWill have established themselves quite well with builders who demand quality and performance from their systems. iWill is sort of a new kid on the block and I have only used one, but it was unquestionably solid right out of the box.

I have a good comfort level with all of the above manufactures and I am sure my next one will be a board from that list. Go with MSI if you like what you see, but remember that every manufacture will have a bad board now and then and it will always be a dice roll; however, the odds will be largely in your favor as long as you stay with a reputable brand.

thanks a lot for the advice guys, im just looking around for mobo and have decided between the Asus V333 and the MSI KT3 as recently reviewed by Anandtech, both were considered equally good the only downpoint on the MSI is the overclocking facilities and the clash with some make of Ram i dont get here, any advice from your own experience which one may edge the other one as the better board, im looking for stability but i will be o/c

thanks in advance
