Is it tough being a jew on christmas?

hevnsnt

Lifer
Just wondering..

Southpark song..

It's hard to be a Jew on Christmas
My Friends won't let me join in any games..
And I can't sing Christmas songs
Or decorate a Christmas tree..
Or leave water out for Rudolph
cos there's something wrong with me..
My people don't believe in Jesus Christ's divinity..
I'm a Jew, a Lonely Jew.. on Christmas.

Hanukkah is nice, but why is it,
That Santa passes over my house every year?
And instead of eating Ham
I have to eat Kosher Lekeesh..
Instead of Silent Night
I'm singing hou-hazch-tou-gavish..
And what the fvck is up
With lighting all these fvcking Candles, tell me please?
I'm a Jew, a Lonely Jew..
I'd be merry, but i'm Hebrew.. on Christmas.

Hey Little Boy, I can't help but hear,
You're feeling left out of Christmas Cheer..
But i've come to see that you shouldn't be sad
'Cos this is the one month that you shoud be glad..

Because it's nice to be a Jew on Christmas
You don't have to deal with the season at all..
You don't have to be on your best behaviour, or give to charity
You don't have to go to grandma's house with your alcoholic family..
And I don't have to sit on some fake Santa's lap
And have him breathe his stinky breath on me!
That's right! You're a Jew, a Stylin' Jew..
It'd a good time, to be Hebrew.. on Christmas.

Christmas is just a secular holiday for a lot of us non-jews too. Santa does not obey the Pope!

Yup. There are definitely two parallel holidays: Commercial Christmas (with Santa) and Christian Christmas (with church and all that stuff). I'm not really that Jewish, or that Christian. I celebrate Passover, Chanukah, Yom Kippur (sometimes), Christmas, and Easter. For the latter two we have a tree and give presents, but I don't feel that makes me Christian.

tough? it's great. you get the days off of work, dont have to fight the crowds at the mall and get to do whatever you want instead of having to go to church or family dinners.

I look forward to our traditional chinese dinner christmas night 🙂

Do you think Athiest celebrate Christmas? I bet they do... Unfortunately Christmas has been so far removed from being a Christian holiday its not even funny. Today its seems like a commercial holiday where stores begin preparing for at the end of October, and then profit. Christmas seems unimportant, I bet if you went to an elementary school and asked all the kids what the true meaning of christmas was they'd all tell you its a time for getting present (those greedy little bastards), not that its to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. I doubt its very hard at all to be Jewish around Christmas time, infact I'm supprised they dont celebrate this commercial holiday.

We do. Its called Channukah. Channukah isn't a very important holiday. Passover, Yom Kippur, and Rosh Hashanah are probably are biggest ones, but Channukah is regarded as a big one because of Christmas.

Most atheists I know DO celebrate Christmas. So WTF is your point? You act like Christians have some right to December 25th and no one else can have it. Grow up and get off your high horse.

mom's jewish, dad is roman catholic.

Which did you choose, if you don't mind me asking?
I though you were only Jewish if both your parents are (according to faith). I'm not Jewish, so I could be wrong. Of course, this could also be something time has left out of the religion as well. I'm sure it happens a lot and children of mixed parents are allowed to become Jewish...

From what I remember, you're Jewish if your mom is a Jew. But I seem to recall that they re-evaluated that and now as long as either parent is a Jew then you're a Jew.

A comedian I saw once talked about how Thanksgiving is a "Going away" party for Jewish friends. It's like saying "Eat...drink...because we're going to be having a blast for the next month and you can't come!" heheheh

only if u cling to the idea that christmas has not become secular. just listen to most of the music 🙂

anyways, secular xmas and its music/mythology/movies pwn religious holiday😛
