I need to think.

Doctor used the term 'possibly undiagnosed and aggressive'.

They want to do tests. I'm not sure I do.

I told myself 20 years ago I was done and when the time came, if a condition developed, I would not do anything to stop or delay it, only to manage during the progression to the inevitable outcome.

I exist, nothing more. There is no future. There is no reason to do otherwise.

Whatever it is, it's probably worth at least trying to treat it, unless the treatment/cure is worse than the symptoms. But something like cancer I probably wouldn't mess around with that, especially if it's early stage there is a good chance to get rid of it 100% if you act right away.

I mean, based on the things you've said, you don't particularly relish extending your time here. I guess when faced with your mortality, you'll have to shit or get off the pot. Consider checking into palliative care options if that's the way you want to lean?
If it is the big C, I've known a couple people that got diagnosed late and were gone within months.

if you have nothing left to live for (regrets, family, friends, pets, self, etc) then that is the type of mindset I would take. Nothing worth stringing out additional pain, costs, and burden on the system.

If my life as yet feels unfulfilled, or I have others surrounding me, then I'd at least do everything I could to extend my life.

This why you shouldn't go to the fckn doctors...they always send you home with some diagnosis you didn't have when you walked in.

TAKE IT BACK! I DON'T WANT IT!!

Well, whatever it is, just know that active treatment can still be a way to manage symptoms. Just something to keep in mind if you have a "goals of therapy" type conversation with your doctor.

Seems the test they want to do:

A, May not be conclusive either way, or even accurate.
B, May do more harm than good.

"Possibly" seems like a very important word. It would seem reasonable for you to hold off on making any decisions until you know for certain (either from testing results or just further developments over time). Hopefully that possibility will be ruled out!

It is, which is why I'm reluctant.

Since the end of July, I've had 8 holes cut into me to correct immediate and unavoidable situations where there were no other available options. I've been in various adjustable beds for around 10 nights after having never been in one for most of many decades.

This other issue is not related to any of that and I am not having any symptoms or difficulties. The only indicator is in a blood test.

At this point, unless something become far more obvious an unavoidable, I don't plan on being in one again or having any more poking or prodding any time soon.

So far, I haven't incurred any direct cost, maybe $50 or so sort of indirect. And that's only because one department bills separately from the main institution and messed up their part. But as of November 1, my insurance is changing some and I'm not sure how it will all shake out just yet. So, I'm looking to rack up a bunch of testing and whatever until I know more about that.

But like I said above, I made the decision long ago that I would not do anything to extend or delay, only to manage immediate situations. When your appendix decides it wants out, you don't really have a choice but to have them help it do so. When part of that procedure doesn't heal quite right, and your guts are trying to fall out, they need to fix that.

This other is not any of that.
