is it time to upgrade my setup?

I like everything to work at peak performance, if possible more than the rated performance. So I was a bit bummed that the new SATA3 SSD I bought does not work at peak performance because of the Marvell controller on my motherboard. So should I ditch the setup and go for a IB/SB setup with a motherboard that has better sata3 controllers like most of the Z77 boards?

On a side note, while the ssd benchmarks have been below par, I have not noticed anything debilitating in real world scenarios.

I've upgraded for similar reasons in the past, but you're *not* going to notice a difference in anything but benchmarks.

Nice setup very similar to what i have. I would probably upgrade the graphics card first. That is about the only thing that will give you some WOW. And maybe the onboard sound. I have been looking for upgrade options for mine but just had not really seen anything that would be noticeable.

You have the SSD but maybe the vid and sound could be adjusted. For video the GTX670 at 399.00 would give you some noticeable oooph in games. And a 23.00 audio card may do that same. I just ordered a two of them.

I actually had a GTX 680 for a week, before I decided I ts overkill for me. So I sold it and got the 7850. I dont use the onbord sound, I use the HDMI audio drivers on the video card.

That's a lot of money to address an issue that's largely psychological IMO. Your current setup is more than capable. Wait for Haswell is my advise.

SATA2 vs SATA3 doesnt matter much outside benches. And since you already OCed your CPU to a good speed. I would wait for Haswell. Had you run stock it would be a different matter.

It actually matters even less than that. He has SATA III, just not native to the chipset.

Use the Marvell for SATA ODDs or something. The quality SATA controller is the Intel 3Gbps one. Unless you're editing video, or randomly moving around large files, 3Gbps will be enough, and storage-limited application performance will favor the 3Gbps Intel and AMD controllers over the Marvell practically every time, and performance differences between SSD models still remain about the same, even at 3Gbps instead of 6.

Given your perfectly capable hardware, my suggestion is for the LEAST suggested upgrade you'll ever hear, yet it makes an enormous difference to your experience: A COMFIER PC CHAIR!
