Is it still required to uninstall Catalyst drivers before re-installing

Is it still required to uninstall Catalyst drivers before re-installing? ...can I not just install the new cat's without uninstalling first?

i always just installed over the top, and everthing worked fine, i saw the relevant speed increases, etc..

You can probably get away with installing over the top but I always uninstall first just to be safe.

I never did it, and never do it. My old P4 Radeon 9500 PRO system is fine.

Jebus....it takes a very short time to unistall the drivers, run driver cleaner pro, restart and install new ones...

What 10 min?

Just do it! Better safe than sorry.

how "sorry" can you be? what can go wrong than another uninstall and reinstall won't cure?

i usually do uninstall and reinstall but never bother with driver cleaner. Win/Ati has a pretty good uninstaller.

I was just hoping that they'd finally figured out how to do this without making us go through the uninstall app. Anyway, loaded the new 5.11 cats and they kill my card. I'm going to try and find the old drivers and see if I can throw them back on. Funny thing is I'm reading nothing but rave reviews on the new drivers. Could it be just my rig... anyone else with an 800xl having the same issues?
