Is it still bad to have your DVD writer and reader on the same IDE cable?

For the longest time, the school of thought was to have Reader on 1 channel, and Writer on the other. Is that still true? I'd like to put em on the same channel to eliminate another cable from the jungl....er case.
 
If you do a lot of simultaneous reading and writing - on-the-fly copying, watching a movie while burning a CD - then I'd suggest against it and using the two separate cables. If not, go for it.

If you start getting weird errors though, switch back.
