<< They just want your money >>

Doesn`t every company want that?
I do agree some people do seem to "love" either company. But others are just consumers who want the most out of their product.

it's mostly about bragging rights: my video card is better that yours...

kind of like the amd vs intel saga.

Well, AMD and Intel is something diffrent, AMD is just better :D :D :D

For sure any company wants just your money, but some people seem like they would go to bed with their Video Card....

It's called cognitive dissonance... when you perform a behavior (in this case buying an expensive vidcard), and it goes against what you're hearing, it creates a 'mental conflict' (dissonance)... ie, people are saying your card is crap, but since you already did the behavior, it's difficult to change that, so inorder to remove dissonance, you change your mentality to really believe that your card really IS good (because you're behavior is done already, and it's a lot hard to change your behavior then your beliefs).

All of us have done something similar at one time or another.

Moralpanic, that is a nice description

what may have happened is that after reading the reviews, you followed what the reviews said, were unhappy, went AGAINST what the reviews said, and were happy.

that creates some other type of cognitive distances or whatever....

:p

I think some people take their cards out of their computer at night and sleep with them under their pillow. I could name a few that I know on this board, but I won't. ;)

Well if you buy a product from a company and it turns out to work really well, you develop a sense of loyalty to the company. This is especially true if you've tried a lot of other brands first, had problems with all of them, and then finally tried the brand you are with now.

I think some people take their cards out of their computer at night and sleep with them under their pillow.

I'm sure those cards will work reaaaaally well in the morning. ;)
