Is it socially acceptable to take 2 extra years to finish college?

As long as you graduate, that's all that matters. There are plenty of people that go 6 years because they can't decide on a major. It's better to graduate in 6 years than to graduate in 3 with a major that is either worthless or of no interest to you (or both).

I spent almost 3 years getting my two year degree, then took a whole year off before transferring to WSU. 😛
I'm about as underacheiving as you can get and still be expecting to finish college. Though I am planning on finishing my final two years in just two years. 😀

Hey mchammer187, whats the 187 in your name for?

:Q 4 Posts! That's lurk-tastic!

BTW, 187, IIRC, is slang for murder (comes from some sort of police code?).

that's nuts, a junior member who registered in 2000  (maybe he just comes by here once every 3 years) 😉

edit: i am just an echoer i see. 😀

I'd definitely look down on you and make fun of you, but why the fvck would anyone care what I think? 😛 just do what works for you.

Even if it was not socially acceptable, people just give you a pause for a few seconds then move on. I won't lie. When someone tells me they are 26 or something and still in school, I definitely think "strange..." for a second then I move on. Nobody really cares. The real reason I think most people take more than 4 years is that they are afraid of graduating and being in the "real" world.

See it doesn't make me think strange. There are people in their 40s that are just starting a bachelors degree.

Just because there are people who are doing it, doesn't make it less strange. There is an accepted understanding of how things should progress in life. There are 13 year old kids that still wear diapers. I still say strange.

no when you get older than most grad students then you should be worrying though

Huh? People go to college at all ages. Who cares about social acceptance? Are you going to school to learn and educate yourself or win a popularity contest?
