I spent 4 years taking schooling to do networking then decided I didnt want to do it.

Have CCNA
took CCNP course (Not exam)
3 year network engineering
2 year on site additional training

Decided I didnt want to do it because I like retail more. Happier making good money as a Wal-Mart manager...
 
You're screwed up being happy working as a Wal-Mart Manager in my eyes, only because I couldn't do that all my life. Maybe you should look at some other options for school? Most people don't graduate what they started studying in.

I'm not saying you're wrong for wanting to stay a manager, do whatever makes you happy.

I like working with people and I like a fast paced environment!

It was after i did my 2 year onsite that I was unhappy with networking...too individual...

take test anywho just to have on the back burner.....
 
If you go into something then find out that you don't enjoy it, there's nothing wrong with going into something that interests you as long as it doesn't harm you (typical PR response 😛).

I am not a store manager yet, I wish.

What you have to do is be an assistant manager, or 'Duty manager'. Performance for 2 years usually suffices, then you are moved to a co-manager position, which is your training position. Then you basically stay there until you can apply for a store and get hired on for it.

Just have to be a solid performer, be good with people, have a merchandising mind, and be willing to work hard...
 
There is nothing wrong with your choice.

Somebody needs to be a retail manager, and it's good that someone reasonably intelligent is motivated to do the job.
The person to person and management experience you're gaining is giving you awesome resume material, that along with your education will make you look really good to recruiters.

You can go into tech management or business... Become a CEO.
 
did you even try the CCNP exam? my teacher is currently studying for it and will attempt it soon.

anyway, you didn't screw anything. if you like being a manager better, go ahead. as long as you're happy, that all the really matters.

When I got out of the military, I could have gone straight to a similar job for pretty decent pay. Instead I took a different job that paid half as much. But I didn't care for my job in the military... now I'm much happier, and it's taken a while, but I'm making as much or more than I would have if I'd taken that other job.
