Is it safe to put bleach in my sink?

Is it ok for the pipes and stuff like that?

I wanted to clean the sink and disinfect the drain area. Can I pour some bleach in the sink (with the stopper) and dilute it w/ some water....and then let it sit for a while?

I've done it before, no harm to either.

BUT do not follow it with a Drano chaser. Nasty, nasty fumes from that.

Do you have a stainless steel sink? If so, it's not very wise to leave bleach in contact with stainless steel for a long period of time. (Like overnight and many times.) Eventually the bleach will pit stainless steel.
