i usually run my dual CRT setup at 10*7 @ 85hz
i wanted a bit more desktop space so i go to 11*8 @ 75hz
when i look at the monitor thru the corner of my eye i see it "refreshing" so i bump the rate to 85hz which is out of spec for the crt

if it works then i guess it supports it, but i wouldn't be pushing the CRT because life deminishes that way.

i went back to 10*7, i have an old gateway 17" and a new KDS xflat 17"
the KDS would still flicker in the corner of my eye when at 11*8 @ 85hz or 100hz so it must not even be refreshing at that rate

If you push it too far, it should black out and give an "out of range" message.

people bring this up over and over again. No one has EVER given a satisfactory answer to this which is very dissapointing

Bah...this old POS EV700 I have on my rig maxes "safely" @ 75hz....the hell with that. Daddy doesn't need cataracts. It gets the 85hz treatment.

Are you sure? I can push my trinitron hmd a220 17inch up to 200HZ with no black out. and it only recommends 85hz at 10*7

My sony G500 that is 3 years old is running @ 1280X1024 110hrz Via my friend Power Stripe and has been the last Year. It is rated for a max refresh @ that res of 85hrz. Does that answer anybodys questions?? I dont know the scientific explanation of how or why or even if its safe but thats much higher than the rated Hrz and I have never a had a problem with it once....but then again its a 21" THats capable of 2048x1536 @ 75hrz....so mabye that makes all the diffrence?

My G400 is @ 1600 * 1200 @ 75hz 24/7, nothing seems wrong with it. If something does happen, I'm willing to work part-time for $1,500 to get myself an F520. :)

I've pretty much killed two monitors that way, lifespans were cut VERY short. Out of range and out of spec are two very different things. In short, my own experiance has told me to never ever OC the refresh rate.

Good to know, but what about resolution? I've got a monitor that claims to top out at 1024x768, but so long as it's set up as "default monitor" it will do 12x10. Any thoughts on that?
