Basic audio receiver running cheap sony speakers: would it severely shorten the life of the receiver if I just leave it on all the time?

I have a receiver that's been on 99% of the time since 1998 and I've never had problems with it.

why leave it on? is it that hard to turn if off? if nothing else, you're wasting electricity. however, i do think it would shorten the life of the receiver. all electronic components generate heat, and all electronic components are damaged by heat over time. turn if off when you aren't using it!

It could have a problem and torch your place. TVs cause lots of fires because they are on when plugged in.

Problem I don't like is if it is connected to something it may put out some random loud noise and destroy it.

What if you are crunching for a good cause?

I have a macro set to power up/down my tv, cable box and receiver. I guess it's not really necesarry to power off the cable box and receiver.
