Is it safe to keep driving on a tire that you've fixed with Fix-a-Flat (or some other equivalent tire patching canister)

I drove over a nail the other day. It wasn't really long or wide but it punctured it enough where I could hear the hissing sound when I got out. I immediately went to get a can of FIx-a-Flat, pulled out the nail, and injected the content of the can into the tire. The hissing noise stopped so I assume it successfully plugged the hole. I drove around for 4-5 miles to evenly distribute the content in the tire. It's been a few days and it doesn't seem like my tire has lost any more air but I was wondering if it's safe to keep driving on it long term. The tire is still fairly new; about 3,000 miles. Am I okay or should I goto a tire spot and have them professional examined and fixed?

I know what the obvious answer is but I'm a poor college student. I don't really have the money to just go fix it if I don't really need to.

Uhm, it costs less then $20 to get a tire fixed. However, now that you put that sh!t into your tire it will cost a lot more to fix it since they need to clean that sh!t out before fixing it. If you take it to get it fixed be sure to tell them you used the Fix-a-flat.

where did you get your tire, most places have a warrenty on the tire.. and most places fix flats for free or for 10 bucks or so.

I had to get a new tire for my car after a blowout, out of pocket expense, 16.50 at costco for the prorated warrenty..i had over 10K on it at that point.

why didn't use just change the tire and get it fixed right? now your probably going to be out a almost new tire. have you seen what a can of fix a flat looks like when the tire is taken off the wheel.

*hint don't be within punching distance of the guy thats gunna have to clean up the mess on the tire machine

Some places wont even touch a tire/wheel thats been "fixed" with fix-a-flat. Why didn't you have a spare tire handy?

Fix a flat is actually bad for your tire, it starts to dissolve it from the inside out, you should get it out of there and fixed asap. in the future change your tire with the spare unless not possible at the time.
