My current motherboard is Gigabyte GA-IRXP with P4 1.6 GHz.
I just got P4 2.26GHz 533 FSB with MSI mobo(CompUSA deal).
I thought maybe I can swap the cpu for me and let my wife have my P4 1.6 (with the MSI).

According to : Gigabyte

my mobo can only support 400 FSB CPU.
Is it possible for me to use the P4 2.26GHz 533 FSB on my mobo ?
Or is there any way to bump up my mobo FSB to 533 ?

Thanks for any help.

Well, in the even that it does POST, you'll be running at 1.7 (17 x 100 FSB) instead of 2.26 (17 x 133 FSB). I doubt that you'll see any difference in performance from 1.6 to 1.7.

I'll just go ahead & use the new CPU with the MSI mobo then.

Thank you for all the helps.
Really appreciate it.

If your new mobo has an fsb that can raise up you can try it...a 400fsb chip has an fsb of 100....I imagine the Gigabyte board (decent ocers for the most part) can get to fsb 133...Those "official" comments are only official for board at stock settings./..many have used faster bus chips on older mobo...

It will not hurt to try....They had the same vcore so should have no issues or fears there...
