is it safe to install XP trial on same partition as Win98?

A full clean install that is, not an upgrade, I would like to keep Win98. I currently have 2 hd's, Win98 on C: and Win2000 on D:, no partitions on drives.

Either that or will I need to obtain a program to partition one of my drives, probably D:

Thanks in advance.

It should work just fine, but like with all dual-boot systems there's always an increased risk of screwing something up, after which you can't access any of the installed OS's anymore.

because XP is buggy (and more than buggy....) keep it in a separate drive
use paritition magic to setup a new drive. that way you can delete it with
one command: format, when your tired of its problems. However, this was
written on XP and its behaving better now.

Thanks for the info.

I have decided to use Ranish Partition Manager (freeware) to partition drive D: the one containing Win2K and use this new partition to install WinXP. If I create a partition on drive C: then the new partition would become drive D: and the old D: would become E: which would probably cause Win2K to fail to load because the Win2K drive letter has changed. I think.

The former method should hopefully keep the Win2K drive letter and boot loader intact.

Please advise before I make the jump.
