Has anyone tried hooking their pc or video game system up to a big screen(rear projection) television? I remember hearing that this can damage your tv? Can you do it and what could cause a problem and how do you avoid those problems?
Thanks!

mwilcko - You should check out the manuals to all the consoles... it states that the company would not be responsible for what happens if you hook your console up to a Projection TV... I personally wouldn't do it... because I've heard from word of mouth that it might ruin the color and whatnot...

It's dangerous... and the manual clearly states so on my Playstation 2... might be the same w/ your console... I'd steer clear of this path..

a friend of mine had a front projection tv... i think the warning label stuck to the screen said not to disply static images for a long time. might cause burn in i guess but i don't know how that would happen with a projection. if you intend to play quake on it it should be golden.

I wouldnt do it! I have a 55" mitsubishi and called the company asking them about it, burn in could easily occur on the screen! Ruining my 3000$ tv is not my idea of a good time!

Yeah great then he can have that pic of his health and armor burned into the screen!

NO!!! The TV will explode and result in you being physically harmed, the explosion will knock a candle you have burning on the table over which will set fire to your table and as a result smoke damage half of your house, you will make your dog go blind in one eye and make your neighbours hate you as a result. The fire trucks will race to your house and smash two windows to put out the fire, you're insurers will say that the policy is not valid for hooking up a console to a rear projection TV, the media will send a few choppers over your house and you will be on the news with big titles stating you hooked your console to the rear projection TV etc etc etc etc...

ANYWAY, enough BS, it is entirely safe and fine to hook it up. What proof do the other people that posted otherwise have?
I laugh at a lot of trolling that goes on here, any monitor/tv/rear projection tv will burn in an image if left for too long. Ignore the BS posted by ppl who dont know and just plug it in and enjoy it, you are fortunate to have a large TV, make the most of it!

Cheers

I would vote no too. We had a projection screen in our dorm lobby, and some friends and I decided it owuld be fun to plug in my PS1, after about 5 hours of tekken 2, when we shut off the ps and went back to regular satellite tv, we could notice the health bars and the infinity sign (we set the fights for unlimted amounts of tie) at the top of the screen, real faint, more like an off-color display, but it was there... Now, maybe projection tvs are different nowadays, (though I can't imagine by much than five years ago) but I wouldn't give it a try...

Projection TVs are extremely susceptible to burn-in, much more so than a tube TV/monitor. It's so bad that many people with the new widescreen projection TVs run regular 4:3 TV stretched to fill the wide screen to avoid burning in the edges.
