is it safe to give someone the bank account number?

somebody needs to send money to me wiht wire transfering. so he said he needs my bank account # and routing #. is it safe to give him those infomation? i mean, of course giving out your infomation is never safe, but is it still acceptable to give the bank acc # in such situation like this? i have never done any wire tranfer before so i dont know what to do. please give me some advice

why not, anyone you ever gave a check to has your account and routing number. you can also call western union and confirm what info they really need.

if this is some ebay deal with a guy in nigeria don't bother.

No it is not safe! He can drain your bank account using that information!

You should also not write checks to people you dont know, as they also contain that information.

and you know there's usually a charge to you for the incoming wire transfer right ? I got hit for $10.

Just get a free account from like wamu or something. Whenever you have money, write yourself a check to another account

really? i never knew that. ok i will talk to the bank tomorrow about this.

oh ok, isee. so the bank that you use to receive the money directly from those people will work like a proxy server, right. in case something happened that bank will get all the shiz storm and your money is still safe in the second bank. actually that s very smart idea. thanks

the goofball cashiers at walmart and every grocery store you go to and write checks can copy your checking account # and routing # off your check , are you going to stop writing checks because it is "dangerous" ?

I stopped writing checks because it takes too much damn effort, and usually takes longer then using my card/cash.
