my bf was supposed to fly to jfk airport in ny on wednesday. of course he coudn't so they rescheduled him for friday. now we are wondering if he should even fly tomorrow. looks like ny airports will be back open by tomorrow and if he wants to he could fly but is it safe? or are we just paranoid? i heard there were more than 90 bomb threats today. even tho they ended up not being real it only takes one and for a person to be at the wrong place at teh wrong time. so i'm kind of worried. and just that there are these many threats shows u how many wackos are out there right now.

he is flying there to work for a year. the guy told him everything is ok and that he should fly now. so he feels like he shoudl because his boss obviously thinks it' sok and he doesn't want to look bad. but i say better safe than sorry. but i can't help feeling like i'm a bit paranoid. what do u all think?

It is probably safer now than it has ever been in the past. Security is MAJORLY beefed up.

If his boss is not understanding of his concern over flying, his boss is an idiot...

I wouldn't fly to NY right now unless it was to help in the rescue, otherwise it can wait a week...

I've been watching the news today, and it doesn't look like much has been done... 3 more groups of people were arrested today trying to board 3 seperate airliners, they were part of the same plot, they had the same documents, weapons, etc...

They are saying that as many as 80 people are in the US as part of this plot, and only perhaps half of them have been caught...

question is are you up for the risk? I mean is this job really that important that its worth risking your life over? I would not fly anywhere unless absolutely necessary (emergencies). I'm not trying to scare anybody, but in these situations its best to stay home and wait a little while longer. Or unless like Jehh says, you're going to help.

If you really need to go, why not drive? It is a bit more of a pain, but I personally think it is worth it...

well he is flying from la. so driving is out of the question

and yeah, it's not worth the risk but i thought maybe i'm being paranoid cuz the guy was like everything's ok and recommended him flying over as soon as possible. i figured he'd have a better idea since he is actually in ny

imho, this is like jack in the box after the ecoli scare. safest hamburger you can find. you won't find a safer time to fly.

edit: but i should add that if anything should happen, don't blame me ;)

i think the ecoli paranoia was at least limited to certain batch/incident

with several arrests today of potential hijackers (i assume you guys read the threads, seen the news, etc.) i would think this is more of an ongoing attack

but whatever happens i'm sure the result will be the same- security and procedures will be beefed up and safety at a considerably higher level. eventually people will become confident enough, hell even start to like flying again, just like jack. :) i remember when no one would touch a jack burger, now we live off of it in college...

the good news is that local terminals are open for business.

the bad news is that nothing is going IN or OUT of these airports.

That seems kind of freaky. I say you go together. Not with him then meet up with him and go ... if you're worried, and he wants to go ... you could take the risk together. That's what I'd do ... either that or don't go at all (either of you). This is a really bad time to be flying, right after somethign like this happens? Of course paranoia is gonna be everywhere.
