If you are staying at a major resort with water treatment you should be ok.

At the resort we went to they had bottled water in the room for you to drink and brush your teeth with.

Go for bottled water. Hell forget the water, just guzzle beer all week.

Actually, by the time I left Cancun, water tasted so good since it was relatively hard to come by compared to beer and frozen daiquiri/margaritas.

I did my best to stay away from tap water, but I did get ice in drinks at a number of places and didn't have any problems.

I went down to Puerto Penasco, Mexico a week ago, and didn't trust the water. Everybody in my family drank the water from the tap and no illness was reported. However, I... on the safe side, used the filtered water the hotel provided to us for everything...

I'm staying at BlueBay Getaway as long as Hurrican Emily didn't damage it too much. I assume they have decent water, etc..but I'm new to Mexico...

At the resort hotels and nice restaurants, yes. At most restaurants, maybe. On the street, no. Just drink bottle watered, why chance it?

And..........ice cubes are probably off limits also.

I should have told myself that several years ago.

Stay away from uncooked anything like salads, fruits, and veggies unless you wash them with dilute bleach water.

Cancun has its own water filtration system, and all the nice hotels have a system on top of that as well. Drinking the water there is safe.

Just don't eat a taco from a street vendor in the ghetto area of Cancun. That sucked for about a week.

You better listen to this man!! When I was there in January, my hotel had bottled water with every meal. We always took a few with us back to the room.

Mill, I'm not sure where you're getting this information from, but let me tell you, do not drink the tap water here. Cancun's water filtration is nothing like the States and while some hotel's do have their own filtration system, the upkeep and maintenance is highly suspect.

You may get by for a while drinking tap water here but sooner or later you will get sick from it. Drink bottled water anywhere you go in Mexico; the locals do not drink tap water and I don't suggest that tourists do either.

Edit: BTW, using ice is fine, they make it from purified water, and if you get a plain glass of water in a restaurant, that will be purified water also.
