Is it safe to delete everything from the %temp% folder? I have about 65MB in this folder.
The location of this folder is C:\DOCUME~1\*****~1\LOCALS~1, I got to this folder through the Run command, and typing %temp%, is there another way to get to this folder through my computer?
What's the difference between this folder and the temp folder in C:\WINDOWS? Can they both be deleted?
I only have one user logon in my computer, I am using windows xp, why is it putting all these temp files in those two locations? Thank you.

I just open up Windows Explorer go to C:\DOCUME~1\*****~1\LOCALS~1\temp folder and delete it`s contents,I also check the Windows\temps contents as well and delete the contents there too,I`ve never had any problems deleting the contents in the temps folder so yes it`s safe to do so.

Temp folders are used for tempory storage ,so they are safe to remove contents.

This explains it .

The phrase to look out for: "This may affect on or more registered programs"

If you see that phrase while deleting, skip that file/folder. Any other warnings like "this is read-only" or "this is an executable you won't be able to run" etc. can be ignored.

I was just going to say that. I cleared the temp folders on an NT4 machine running ArcView (ignoring that particular message), and ArcView wouldn't run anymore...had to remove and reinstall. :|

just go to accessories/system tools/disk cleanup and let windows clean ure temp files for you. should get most of that 65MB chunk.

some more modern programs will use the %TEMP% variable, but older crappy programs may have c:\windows\temp hardcoded in

basically anythign you delete in these folders should be okay to delete. although, i like to reboot anbd then delte them to make sure there is nothign in there that is pending a reboot (i never reboot when installing or patching anything, despite the warnings)

as long as you reboot, and delete the folders right away you should be fine. i've never run into a problem since win3.1
