Is it safe to bring a computer (desktop) thru airport and on plane?

Will x-raying the machine or handling on an airplane mess anything up?

Yeah, it fine...don't worry about the xrays. I did that last year and it worked fine. but, make sure you pack it up well with lots of cushioning.

I didn't package mine too well and even though i had tons of 'fragile' stickers on the box, it arrived home with the top right corner caved in and both my cdreader and cdwriter are now broken =(

you'll be fine :) though if you're worried, i'm sure you could just open up the case for them(i don't think it would be all that easy to hide anything in a computer case, unless you gut the hdd and cdrom or something)

edit: that's if you're taking it carry on :p

my sister brought hers on as carry on. I would be prepared to open it up and have a power cord to turn it on. Many times they want to make sure it's a functioning computer and you didn't just gut some parts.

I brought an Athlon 500 system to my uncle in Italy last summer. I packed the inside of the case full of thick bubble wrap. When I arrived in Italy and unpacked it, the Athlon was out of the slot. Make sure you pack this thing very WELL. You should see how some of the airport workers treat your luggage...

I would take the cpu out of the slot (if you have a slot1 cpu) and package that separately. All the other stuff is basically screwed into place, the cpu stays connected by just those cheap plastic slot things.
