Is it sad that I want to go to Shanghai just to ride the Shanghai Transrapid? (Maglev Train)

I wonder what they like better in Shang Hai smooth or chunky peanut butter.

Smooth is my preference because it takes the factory more machine power to make it.

You know that thing was built by the Germans?

Germany is finally getting around to building one of their own. It will link the Munich main train station with the airport. Might be an easier trip if you can wait a little longer.

It's sad that Germans built it even though they themselves did not build one at the time because it was too expensive.

I don't really like China blowing money on show-off items, and people are barely riding that maglev train. They could use that money and develop the countryside, the difference between the city and rural area is night and day.

Isn't this typical of most government? Some like to blow off money launching men to the moon, some like to go to war, some like to build roads and bridges to nowhere, while some want to build stuffs so they can put their personal name in front of buildings.

There were maglev trains at Expo 1986 in Vancouver and Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan. The maglev train at Expo 1986 was slow but the one at Expo 2005 was much faster. How do I know? I rode both...

I agree. China is guilty of this. But so is the US, and especially so. Can't always say its a bad thing...

I think it's pretty cool that a country that still has some operating steam engines also has a maglev train. I would definitely like to go there and ride that thing (and many of the steam trains that are left as well).

The train is pretty cool. I rode it from Shanghai to the airport. You get to pass some pretty slummy places though. It's so smooth, so it doesn't feel like you're going that fast. If you look out into the distance it doesn't feel that fast, but if you focus on something close, it's pretty fast.

I can't remember if this was on the Maglev or the Japanese bullet train Shinkansen, but a train going the opposite direction passed us. Imagine you're looking out the window and all of a sudden BOOM your view is completely filled by another train less than 10 feet away, whooshing by so fast you can't even make out any individual windows. A few people in my group kinda jumped out of their seats. And within what feels like less than 5 seconds it's gone.
