Is it right to bomb innocent people? On the news i hear O'Rile or orile factor (fox news) saying they should bomb afgan like the powerplants, factories, roads, bridges so that the area cant function and thus taliban/bin laden will leave. Is it right to screw up the whole country because less then 1/4 of them are meanies.

If we do that - fvcking up the entire country and effectively removing the taliban and bin laden - and a decent government replaces the taliban - then I'm sure we would pump in loads of money to fix it up.

See: Germany, Japan

Yes. It was right to bomb the people in the WTC. So, of course its right to bomb people all over the world! Especially people who we are mad at!

I agree. I hope we do not have to do it, but if it came down to that, I would support it. I would also hope that after this is done, we give aid to the people of Afghanistan. Help them (re)build new cities, set up a different form of government (one not based on terrorism), etc.

Well that dosent make it right to bomb innocent people..... by saying "It is wrong to bomb the wtc" u are saying its not right to bomb innocent people, that way u would contradict urself by saying its ok to bomb afgan...

zippy beat me to it.

If we do destroy the infrastructure, we will also pay to rebuild it. The people of Afghanistan will be better off under a moderate government then what they have now.

Well would it be possible to go in and take taliban out, and setup a new gov in the country? that would be best...but what are our chances of getting binladen himself? binladen could hide who knows where and u wont find him probably...most of his followers are "death before dishonor" and fighting for a holy cause, who will give him up?

As long as the US doesn't interfere and try to americanize its new government, I'll be happy.

Too late to argue this point, IMHO.

I'm sure all caution will used to avoid collateral damage.

War is hell. We didn't start it.

Ok, this is OT but I have to ask.

Mork, what do you mean Americnize its new government?

Would you prefer a dictatorship, a king, a despot or what?

What I don't want is to for the US to impose a government to the liking of just the US. Eradicate the taliban government, but let the people of afghanistan decide who and how they lead.

look at germany, that country was pretty much in shambles. we fixed it up and made it a better country. but in afghanistans case, pave it over completly, and let it sit.

people that condone the bombing of innocents really scare me and make me ashamed to be an american, or human for that matter. are a few civilian casualties acceptable as long as we get the guilty? yes, but should we condone it and bomb indiscriminately? of course not. besides, all you're going to succeed in doing is turning the people against you when you bomb their homes. you can't destroy a nation and expect the people you've just bombed to accept you with open arms.

what infrastructure ? those poor people have lived through nothing but war for over 2 decades. there are over 2 million afghan
refugees in iran. tens of thousands more in pakistan. i think you have more money in your piggy bank than any 50 afghanis
selected at random off the streets of kabul.

<< is it right to bomb innocent people? >>

no. never. then again, i don't think there is anything left to bomb, al least nothing of value owned by the people. if bush wants
to kill taliban, there were reported to be 20,000 taliban fighters massing at the pakistan border, complete with deployments of
their scud missiles.

We will not be 'bombing' innocent people. We will be bombing militarily or infrastructure significant targets, which support the Taliban regime, and some innocent people might be in the way.

The difference is in INTENT, and that is a big difference. One poster already hit the nail on the head: War is hell, we didn't start it. We have a military to kill people and break things, thank GOD we have people in charge who aren't afraid to use it to protect American citizens and interests.

I want you to say to each of your family members, "Family, I accept that you might be killed in a future attack if Bin Laden and his terrorist network isn't stopped, and that's ok by me as long as we don't kill some innocent Afghanis." I'm sure they'll be flattered.

Exactly my thoughts. I completely agree.

Besides, the goal of the US is the governments that suck and not the people. IF we ever do depose the Taliban, can't you see the US protecting whatever new leaders come in, and giving aid to the country.

Destroy the OLD You, and Build the New One. That's the way we are.

i used to be a war nut. Now, after seeing many threads about WTC, I have come to the conclusion that since this isn't regular warfare anymore, innocent ppl should not be hurt.

On the most part, I agreewith O'Reily. But sometimes, he goes a little wacko...
