Is it recommended to see Pirates II without having seen Pirates 1?

If I were to watch the Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Mans Chest without having seen the first, am I going to be lost? Would you guys recommend going to see the first one before I see the second?

It's rather necessary as you won't have a clue about the main characters and their relationships otherwise. Part 2 does not do any real summary from the first movie.

Edit: It's also a very good movie in its own right.

In my opinion, you really don't need to see the first one, but it helps. If you didn't see the first one you would be really confuse about the endind and a little confused about the characters, but that's about it.

I think most people would not find the second one at all enjoyable without having seen the first one.

There is no prologue, and very, very little exposition-- it be like trying to start watch "24" half-way into the season.

The first one is awesome, don't bother with the second.

Part 2 picks up right where part 1 left off, so a lot of things won't make sense to you unless you see 1 first.

I liked them both a lot, BTW.
