Is it recommended to catch up on "The League" before watching current season?

As title says. I'd like to start watching, but would the previous 4 seasons be pretty irrelevant considering the subject matter is the NFL?

You'd be better off catching up. There are tons of references to things that happened in past seasons and you'll miss half the jokes if you don't get the context.

Yes and no.

Yes cause there are lots of mentions to things that have happened in the past seasons.

No cause you can hop into an episode and still enjoy it. Sort of like Big Bang Theory. You can enjoy an episode but if you know the back story it makes it a bit funnier.

Yes, if only because the old episodes are much better than the more recent ones.0

no.. as there's no continuation

There's A TON of references that you just wouldn't get if you didn't watch prior episodes. I'm speaking of season 4 at least. Yobogoya, 3 penis wine, Mr McGibblets, the Shiva bowl, ect. So many inside jokes to the show you wouldn't know otherwise.
