Is it really that confusing?

Have you ever had one of your clients, friends or relatives not be able to keep straight in their head the difference between the Trash in the dock versus the Trash in Mac Mail?

This is an epidemic in my circles right now.

Is it really that confusing?

And to all those people who use either Trash as part of their filing system - ARGH!

Is there a difference, really?

I mean, I think it depends on how you keep your Trash. If you use Trash as a repository to keep stuff you don't think you'll need, but sometimes you might go back to it.. then they're essentially the same.

However, you could also keep your trash completely clean (like I do), then you set the preferences in Mail to automatically delete Trash after you exit.

Maybe I'm missing something with the problem you're having?

The main problem is getting people to understand the following equation:

Trash in dock ≠ Trash in Mac Mail.

Oh I see.. they think that when they put it in the Trash in Mail, it's in the Trash in the Dock? Yea.. that's wonky.

I can see the confusion if you're completely new to computers. I mean, your computer is one thing. it has it's own trash can. why wouldn't the stuff on the computer use the same trash can? The problem is there's no dissociation between applications.. it's... "the computer."

I don't see this specific thing, but see similar stuff w/ the older generation of computer users.
