Is it really possible to make money working from home?

I'm assuming most of those ads you see on TV are scams . . . but surely there's a legit way to do it? EBay? Mary Kay?

My wife is trying to figure out a way to make some extra money on her days off, without spending more money in gas commuting to her office, and avoiding extra time at daycare. And nobody suggest escort service / prostitution. ;)

My wife is an avid garage saler. She knows one thing really well. Old dolls. Anyway, last year she started to purchase old dolls and then re-sold them on ebay. She made around ten thousand dollars. This was done while working a 40 hour work week. My suggestion is stick with what you know. She knows old dolls and knew what to buy and how much to pay.

Depends on what you quantify as "money"

A few hundred? Yes, easily
A few thousand? Only with considerable effort

Medical Transcription and Data Entry are two real jobs you can do from home. Not the most fun, but decent pay + gas savings.

Yes, it is possible. Either through your own business or working for a company like FoBoT has in his link.

My wife is actually driving down to Orlando tomorrow to interview for a job as a trainer where she would be able to work from home.

Medical transcription is a possibility due to some medical contacts, but don't you have to be certified for that?

Drug dealers can make some good money. It's illegal and if you get arrested you go to FPMITAP for an inordinately long amount of time, so YMMV.

One thing to consider is that no one is going to give you money for nothing. You need to offer a service they can't find elsewhere. If you're a good writer, maybe you can make money doing a blog. If you know knick-knacks or technology, maybe you can become an avid eBayer. If you've got a head for finance, start doing some trading online (I know a woman who pulls 60k extra money a year just by doing this in her spare time). You have to figure out what skill you possess that people will actually pay you for. No one is going to pay you to sit around and look at porn.

I charge $35-50/hr doing graphic design work on the side. The extra money is nice, but I can only stand to do a couple of projects a year. After designing for 8 hours at my day job, the last thing I want is to come home and work some more. Not having my evenings and weekends free makes me feel like I'm in school again.

My mom was just asking me this very question when I last saw her. Can this thread deliver?

How much does she start with to make that extra $60k? If she can consistently turn $600 into $60k in one year, year after year, even during a bear market, then perhaps she should apply for a job as a fund manager ;)

Well, she's a librarian, has been for like 35 years... She had saved up quite a bit of money, and when sites like e-trade started popping up, she thought maybe she should teach herself some finance on the side. She read up on trading (as librarians will do copious amounts of research for pretty much anything), and started a small investment portfolio, which quickly grew. She claims she only puts about 10 hours a week into research and trading, but she's making pretty good bank off it (she's still working as a librarian full time). I think she spends more than 10 hours, personally, since it sounds like she treats eTrade like a PopCap game... some shit to do when you're bored or have free time. It's working for her though. Don't know how she's fairing through the downturn, though.

She started small, but got into it fast when she realized that she had a much better rate of return trading than she did leaving her money in a savings account. Which is not to say she pulled out her life savings, because she's not stupid.

And yeah, if she could turn $600 into $60,000, I'd give her all my money and tell her to go hogwild. I could be up to like... 200 bucks! Oh wait, ATOT rules (I almost forgot)... I could be a kajillionaire.

So here's a question: how much money do those small amateur porn sites actually make? Like, just some guy and his wife having sex and releasing a tape every couple weeks... I can't imagine there's much profit to be had unless you had an exceptionally attractive wife, seeing as how there is free porn just about everywhere on the internet. Anyone with experience want to share stories / :camera:'s?

Yes. Cut a hole in the wall, get a webcam, and put together a website called www.gloryholecity.com.

Too late! :p

Yes, I know :) I should have said a site like ... I know the guys that run that site. I don't know how much they are making now, but the last time I talked to them about it, it was pretty substantial. Play money.

This is a thread of its own.
