Is it pretty easy to get around in SF without a car?

I'm planning to fly a Cessna 172 to San Francisco sometime in April to build hours and catch a Giants game. I don't want to rent a car unless it's really necessary. How's the public transportation? Are taxis readily available?

I haven't picked an airport yet but it will most likely be either San Carlos or San Lorenzo. From the Giants site it looks like there are trains that run to both areas.

Downtown SF = car hell. People jaywalk anywhere and the drivers are almost as bad as the New York ones.

BART = your friend.

Easy is an understatement when you talk about traveling around SF w/o a car. We have the largest public transportation system in the US. The methods of public transportation for a city this small is ridiculous. If you need to catch a Taxi outside of downtown, you'll have to call for one.

that's good to know, thanks guys. I will need a little bit of luck. I have to plan the trip without knowing if I can actually make it. I don't have my instrument rating yet so if the weather's bad or cloudy, I won't be able to go.

Yeah it is easy. I had a hard time getting a cab in San Francisco. In New York City it is so easy to get a cab but in San Francisco its much harder. I can walk from one end to the other end of the city easy, its not very big.

I'm not sure about any easy cars in San franny Siscco... But in 74 I got around quite well.😉 I wish i could be of more help to ya, I'll recover some day soon. That's what they told me... I Swear!!!

I'm leaning toward Hayward Executive Airport. Two decent sized runways, cheap tiedown fee, hotels nearby, lots of services available in case something breaks. BART station is quite close too.

yeah many general aviation airports are relatively well hidden. I had no idea how many there were until I started flying. I count seven within about 30 miles of SFO.

Even if you do drive, you have to kinda have an idea of where you're going in the city in order to keep from getting lost. Just use public transportation and cabs.

UHHHHHHH,

Does anyone in this thread besides the OP and myself actually know where San Francisco is? Just curios.
